Community Web Sites | Gateway Page In Norman Rockwell's painting Freedom of
Speech, a man in a humble jacket stands to address a town
meeting, and the men and women around him respectfully listen.
It's a potent symbol of what American society is all about,
but one that - in a world of big newspapers, radio and TV
stations, and disparities of wealth and influence - has become
little more than a symbol. Here we'd like to restore some of
the missing balance. From now on this will be your real
estate, a place where community groups ranging from classrooms
and bowling leagues to universities and foundations can create
Web sites of their own and, through them, talk to our
journalists and invent new ways to collaborate with one
another, share enthusiasms, trade ideas, have fun and, all the
while, weave our public life into a tighter, richer fabric. We
invite you to join the community.
